How to Store Peptides and Bacteriostatic Water: Before and After Reconstitution

At Apex Peptides, we want to ensure you get the most out of your research peptides by properly storing them to maintain stability and potency. Whether you’re working with lyophilized peptides or reconstituted solutions, here’s what you need to know:

Is It Safe to Ship Peptides Without Ice Packs?

Yes, for most research peptides, shipping at room temperature without an ice pack is completely safe for short durations, including standard mailing times.

Peptides are typically lyophilized (freeze-dried) when shipped, which makes them far more stable than in liquid form. Lyophilization removes moisture, significantly reducing the chance of degradation during transport. As long as peptides are properly stored once received, short-term room temperature exposure during transit will not affect their integrity.

Why No Ice Pack?

  • Lyophilized peptides can withstand room temperature for several days to weeks.

  • GLP-1s like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are shipped at room temp by many compounding pharmacies and vendors.

  • Excessive moisture from ice packs can actually introduce risk if packaging isn’t completely moisture-resistant.

Once Delivered:

  • Store peptides in the refrigerator for short-term use.
  • For longer-term storage (months or more), freezing is ideal for most peptides (avoid freeze-thaw cycles).
  • Once reconstituted, peptides should always be kept refrigerated and used within the recommended time window based on peptide type and solvent.

⸻

Lyophilized Peptides (Unmixed Powder)

Storage:

  •  Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  •  For long-term storage (over 2–3 months), refrigeration (36–46°F / 2–8°C) is ideal.
  •  For extended preservation (6+ months), peptides can be stored in a freezer.

Shelf Life:

  • When stored properly in powder form: up to 24 months.

⸻

Reconstituted Peptides (Mixed with Bacteriostatic Water)

Storage:

  • Always store in the refrigerator (36–46°F / 2–8°C) once reconstituted.
  • Keep the vial sealed and avoid unnecessary exposure to air or light.

Shelf Life:

• With bacteriostatic water: up to 90 days refrigerated.

⸻

Bacteriostatic Water

Storage:

  • Store at room temperature or in the fridge.
  • Keep sealed when not in use.

Shelf Life:

  • Unopened: 1-2 years.
  • Opened: Use within 28 days of first puncture if kept sterile and refrigerated.

⸻

Quick Tips for Best Results:

  • Label your vials with the date of reconstitution.
  • Use clean, sterile supplies to prevent contamination.
  • Do not freeze reconstituted peptides, this may degrade the peptide structure.
  • If peptides change color, become cloudy, or form clumps, discontinue use.
